David Morgenstern, Cantorial Soloist and Technology Blogger
In 2010, I started a WordPress.com blog called Kavvanotes. It's focused on Judaism, my experiences as a new cantorial soloist as well as a bit of Jewish-centered technology. The title is a bilingual pun of "kavvanot," the Hebrew word for intentions, and "notes." Blog, notes, get it? Oy!
My daughter Ariela Morgenstern is performing in the upcoming TheaterWorks Silicon Valley production of the Light in the Piazza musical. I saw her sing this role in the excellent Arena Stage production in Washington DC. The Peter Marks' Washinton Post review called her "terrific" and the Baltimore Sun praised her "ravishing mezzo." She is amazing and you should see her.
A story about my career move to becoming a hazzan, or cantor, can be found in a past edition of the J. newsweekly. It's mostly accurate with some minor errors. I'm sorry that the reporter didn't get ahold of Rabbi Rosalind and our president, Carol Mills. But it came out fine. There's a nice image in the print edition that I hope to get a copy of.
I have posted a photo gallery with pix of past annual meetings of eMediaweekly and MacWEEK staff commemorating Black Thursday, the day in 1999 when eMediaweekly was shut down.
